R. Tandler - Formulations for a parallel calculation of impoundment in sewer systems

An article in "Korrespondenz Abwasser", Heft 1011994

Summary

The new European standard ES 752 [1] recommends the use of hydrodynamic computing methods for the check up of existing sewer systems, but also for checking the flooding frequency of sewers, to make sure that the simulation of run-offs during heavy rainfall is as close to reality as possible. Compared to hydrological methods, these methods are very intensive in terms of computing time. In large sewer systems, the practical application of this method often becomes pretty cumbersome for the person doing the calculation. In addition, a precise identification of the impoundment frequency requires an analysis of a great number of rainfalls with due regard to the overall context of a table of rainfall frequencies. For this purpose, the paper presents formulations, based on the principle of symmetry, which enable us to achieve our goal efficiently and much faster than in the past with the help of microcomputers that are equipped with several processors.
